FAQ's
What are the benefits of my child participating in Kindermusik?
We continue to receive positive feedback from medical doctors, speech/occupational therapists, teachers, psychologists etc.
It has been reported that:
Children who have continued with the Kindermusik program are 12-24 months more developed than those who are not on the program.
Babies’ milestones are reached at a much quicker rate
Kindermusik offers opportunities for all children to develop their capacity more fully and prepares the children for the pressures and stress they will face in a school and class environment, peer pressure and exams
The Kindermusik program is not only effective for normal children but also for children with special needs such as autism, down - syndrome, hyperactivity, and children with reading and learning problems etc. In all the above mentioned cases, outstanding results are achieved in the development of the child. The more the classes and activities are repeated, the more securely the memory strands are entrenched in the brain. There is a clearly observable difference between toddlers who receive this stimulation and those who do not. Their powers of concentration are stronger, their co-ordination and muscle development markedly better, their self image is greatly improved, and in general the child achieves much more. In the process basic fundamentals of music are also rooted and established.
What are the different areas of my child’s brain that will be developed?
The Kindermusik program is a gently structured flexible curriculum that allows the child to learn and develop at his or her own pace in ALL areas of development, namely emotional, social, intellectual, concentration, hand-eye co-ordination, small and large motor development, cognitive and brain development. Each activity during class time exercise and develop a certain part of the brain, and through joyful interaction and age-appropriate activities, these activities also contribute to the growth of the total child through the vehicle of music.
Is Kindermusik a local or international program?
Kindermusik is an international program with Kindermusik International continually developing and enhancing its curricula by incorporating the latest early childhood development research showing that active participation in a music program is a powerful stimulant for a child’s total human development. Kindermusik is currently taught in 35 countries across the world.
What age does my child need to be to participate in Kindermusik?

My little one does not want to do the actions to the songs, why?
A young child has not yet learned how to co-ordinate his body enough to participate in all the activities and so we repeat the songs and actions throughout the term. This is precisely why it is necessary for the home materials to be used at least 3 times in a week. Little ones love predicting which action comes next and will begin to feel confident enough to participate more over time. Learning takes patience and time from both parent and child.
What if my child isn’t participating actively in the class?
Children learn differently at different paces. Being part of the class, yet not actively participating does not mean that your child is not learning. Learning takes place through watching, listening and copying. When your child is ready and confident enough to try out the activity, they will jump in and exceed your expectations of their capabilities. Gentle encouragement each week is a necessary part of the process for building a child’s confidence and a strong message of support that your child will value. Many children don’t seem to be learning anything during class, but will delight in showing you their new found skills at home later in the week. For this reason, the home materials are important for reinforcing the skills learned.
How long will it take for my child to settle down?
Some children feel overwhelmed if they have not had much contact with other children of the same age. Some children are shy and others just like to take in what is going on around them before they become involved. They also need a chance to learn the routine. Generally it takes about 3 weeks to get the hang of the program. This is a guideline, because every child is different, some take a little longer.
Why do we do so many different activities?
A child’s attention span is very short, and if too long a time is spent on an activity requiring concentration, they get very frustrated. It is to be expected however that a child will participate more and for a longer period of time on an activity they enjoy, and they all have their favourites. As they grow, so their concentration does, and they become more involved in a variety of activities as opposed to just a chosen few. We encourage participation in all activities, but it is unnecessary to force them to do something they really do not want to do.
Why do we need to arrive 10 minutes before class starts?
Children are naturally curious and love to discover new and interesting things in their environment. With every visit to class they discover something new, and so 10 minutes of free time before class starts gives your child an opportunity to see, unpack and touch/taste what is around them. Your child also loves having your focused attention. This process allows a time for learning at will before the structured play time begins.
What should I do if he is throwing a screaming tantrum in the class?
We all have our bad days and get tired or frustrated. It can be embarrassing if your child does this in front of everyone! Rest assured we have all been through it! The best way is to take him outside, give him something to drink, calm him, and bring him back in.
My child is too shy to sit on the story blanket for story time.
Children really enjoy story time; it gives them comfort and encourages their imagination. I would recommend that you sit on the edge of the story blanket and hold his hand. It’s helpful and encouraging when you participate in the story too.
How often are the toys and equipment cleaned?
To ensure that germs are not spread, and to allow children the freedom to explore, taste and discover, each instrument and all the props used in the Joyful Child Studio are cleaned with a baby safe disinfectant after every class. This kills all bacteria or viruses that may be unknowingly transmitted by a child. All soft toys, blankets and scarves are washed using baby safe detergent in a washing machine every week whether they have been used or not.
Will the other children make my child sick?
Strict rules apply for sick children attending class. Not only is it important for them to rest while they are sick, it helps children from spreading an infection to others. It is also easy for you, as a parent to control how your child interacts with the others around him as you are with your child. There, obviously, can be no guarantee that he won’t get sick by a child that may not look or act sick, but may be carrying a bug, that presents days later. Toddlers are very active and resilient and usually bounce back quickly.
Could my child get hurt?
It is unlikely. Our best efforts are made to provide a safe and secure environment. However, accidents can happen! It is your responsibility to look after your child during class time.
Will my child enjoy music?
YES!!! We believe that all children are musical, and while not every child will become musicians when they grow up, every child loves to bop up and down or to the sides to their favourite tune.
